I made a kimono and hakama ensemble with family crests for 1/6 size doll.
It’s Japanese man’s formal attire.
Its kimono and haori have family crests on both sides of chest, back, and back of the sleeves.
They are called “Itsutsumon”, meaning five family crests.
First, put nagagi (ankle-length kimono) and hakama.
Then wear a haori over.
You can see where those family crests are on the back.
Next, making legs.
I think they are lean and sinewy
but it’s very difficult to make them like so.
Much easier to start making from bones, I guess.
Then, the most important of all, joint balls.
He will have double jointed knees and abdominal joints
so total will be 17.
Making as close to the perfect sphere as possible is
always a hard work.
I made 1/6 size doll’s kimono and naga-baori (long- haori: knee-length kimono coat).
These long length haori (kimono coat) was popular between Taisho and early Showa era in Japan.
They tend to be large and bold color patterns.
Working on his facial details and ears.
I made his ears a little bit elf-like so that they’d be faithful to the original manga.
Isn’t he 30’s, is he?
Need to add some aging-associated expressions…
I usually place his head where I can see well
and rework many times.
And I made his tie (Ascot tie?) with Kleenex.
His round face looks rather young in this picture
but it look sharper now after several modifications.
Work on the body details.
Place head and see the balance.
Too much muscles, I think.
I will make him slender when his body will be
divided into 3 parts for body joints.
I really like its body line.
Too bad it will be gone after I put abdominal joint balls.
I tried to put on much back muscles possible
but it looks not so much.
I will miss this body line!
In response to a request from my friend, I have started to make
a ball jointed doll “Levi” from Attack on Titan a while ago.
I asked tummy to draw this design draft.
made cores for body parts from Styrofoam
(arms are very thin so use drinking straw instead)
Wrapped air dry stone clay and let them dry
then took out cores
Put temporary acrylic eyes and work his face in detail.
I will use these blue-grey eyes for him.
